Change Your Story

What if I told you that in order to change your life, you need to truly find your story. Not the story you have been fed about yourself, the stories that people tell about you that you may have come to believe,

but your own true story.

What if the great goddesses got to tell their own stories directly to us without all the interference? Would they sound different? Pandora might want you to know that there was already evil in the world and she knew the box also had hope, and released it with intention into the world. Persephone might want to share her story differently too. Perhaps she thought it was important for you to know that she was not dragged into the under world, but went of her own free will. What if she could tell you that during that journey she became empowered and was never frightened of it again.Eve's story might be that she loved that apple, and the serpent, and never left “the garden” or lost her innocence because it is within. What if Aphrodite wants you to know, that it was her that created herself from the sea foam, which is what made her truly beautiful. If Hera was given the chance she may want you to know that it was her anger that freed her. That the Goddesses anger was an asset and was a gift to Durga, and Sekhmet, and Kali.We have allowed others to tell the stories of our own lives, and the lives of Goddesses. The truth and the power of our stories lie deep inside us. People will try to take control of your story. They will tell it their way, often projecting themselves all over you. Only you can can tell the truth of your story; and find the messages within you own journey. Trust your own interpretation of your experiences. And it may take time to remove someone else's overlay version of your story as the true story. Once you remove the threads that are not yours; you will find incredible wisdom in your own life. It is then that the clear picture will emerge. And simple changes in your story like in the story of Persephone. Was she dragged into the underworld or did she walk of her own free will? Someone changed her story, and in changing her story changed how we would all perceive it.Take some time and look over the legends of your life. What has been laid over your story to create a different lesson or outcome. Sit with it and tweeze away what is not truly yours. This is painstaking work. It takes courage.People in power may have sought to change your story; parents, teachers, family, political and religious institutions. Imagine that your real story could have been "gaslighted" because who you really are upset the apple cart. And in truth, you may have been too young to fight back, to keep telling your true story -- or perhaps it felt safer to hid under the revised versions of you.Take some time, and remove the old coats of paint. Find your own legends, real and true. Once you have uncovered them, try sharing them. Write them down. Paint them. Tell them. Owning our own stories is where the healing happens. And it's where we can envision a future based on a foundation that feels real. We can lose the ghosts that have haunted us, and kept us back from living out fullest lives. This is how you reclaim your own sleeping beauty. This is how you wake her up. It starts with reexamining the story of our lives, the parts that have been carefully inserted to keep us docile, frightened and powerless.I hope that there is something here for you.
